A new community transport initiative was launched on Monday (2 October) to enable residents in Redditch, Worcester and the rural areas in between to get to either the Alexandra or Worcestershire Royal Hospitals.
Community Transport Connections will enable residents with no access to a car or who have difficulty in using any other form of transport, to get to their appointments and to visit loved ones. The scheme is being delivered as a partnership by the county's council’s existing Community Transport (CT) operators, is funded by the Department for Transport's Total Transport initiative and supported by Worcestershire County Council and healthcare providers.
Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch County, said she was delighted that the scheme was now up and running.
“After the hopper bus scheme came to an end in August I was anxious to see a replacement service in place as soon as possible, and so I am delighted at this announcement this week, although of course I do regret that residents have been left with no service for a few weeks.
“I’m also pleased the Department for Transport's Total Transport initiative has been able to part-fund the scheme which will offer an individual, patient focussed service supporting those who are unable to travel to do so.”
Residents will need to register for the service and pre-book their journeys a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Fares and eligibility criteria apply for the service, but call the booking line (0300 323 9965) Monday to Friday from 9am and 4pm for more information.
The service is provided by volunteers. Anyone who can help support it in either an admin or driver role is urged to call the same number to find out more. Training is provided and expenses paid.
