Rachel has visited the multi-million-pound operating theatre complex which is under construction at the Alexandra Hospital.
The purpose-built extension to the hospital, which will house two brand-new operating theatres, will see its first patients from September 2023.
The £18.8 million operating theatres will see up to 193 patients operated on every month, helping to tackle the backlogs and ensure patients receive their treatment more quickly.
This is one of a number of recent investments in the Alex which also includes a £3.9 million expansion of endoscopy services, a brand-new Breast Imaging Unit and the return of the Garden Suite.
Rachel said:
“I’ve long said the Alex has a bright future ahead of it, and this multi-million-pound investment in our hospital is clear proof of that.
“This brand-new theatre complex will help to tackle the Covid backlogs, ensuring my constituents receive their treatment more quickly – a key promise I’ve set out in my Long-Term Plan for the Delivery of Health and Social Care which I will be publishing very soon.
“Whilst this latest investment is incredibly welcome, I will continue to be ambitious for our hospital and fight for the return of a maternity and children’s service to the Alex.”
