As part of my long-term plan for the Alex, I will be presenting two reports which will clearly set out the evidence and case for a maternity and children’s service to be returned to the Alex.
Answers to your questions
Why now?
Years after maternity and childrens services were transferred from the Alex to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the people of Redditch have not seen the improvement to services they were promised by health bosses.
What's Your Plan?
I’ve long said that we need to look again at where and how services are provided, including a return of a maternity service and paediatric service to the Alex.
I was re-elected in 2019 with an overwhelming mandate to return these services to our hospital.
I’ve set-up an Alex Working Group with Trust bosses in order to intensify discussions over the return of services.
This work will also include the publication of two reports which will make the case for the return of a maternity and children’s service to the Alex.
What Next?
I will continue to meet with local health bosses, government ministers and all stakeholders in Redditch to further the case for returning services to the Alex.
As part of my work to return services, I will be publishing two reports into how our Acute Trust could return a maternity and children’s service to the Alex. This work forms part of my long-term plan for the Alex which will be published in due course.
My report into returning a maternity service to the Alex has been published.
I believe it is a comprehensive and detailed report which presents a realistic vision for how our Acute Trust can return a maternity service to the Alex – ensuring a majority of women in Redditch can give birth at their local hospital.
