Rachel at Pitcheroak

Rachel officially open Pitcheroak School’s new school house last Friday (May 21st).

Just under £300,000 has been invested in the school to provide additional places and to improve the accommodation.

The former school house has been extended, reconfigured and refurbished to create additional teaching capacity to the main school.

The ground floor provides an additional teaching space for children with special educational needs (SEND)  and also includes associated support spaces.

On the first floor, there is a staff area and office space.  Work also included the creation of an accessible outdoor play area and an alternative provision work experience facility for post 16 students with SEND.

The building work started in September 2019 and was completed in September 2020.

Worcestershire County Council worked directly with the school to ensure the project was delivered and suitable for the intended provision. The County Council funded the work but the project was led by the school using their own property consultant.

Rachel said:

“Having visited Pitcheroak myself, I know that it is a superb school and provides a first class education for children and young people with special educational needs. It’s fantastic to see Government investment is improving the school’s facilities and enabled more places for pupils to be created. This will ensure more children and young people with special educational needs can continue to reach their full potential.”

Councillor Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member for Education on Worcestershire County Council, said:

“Improving educational provision for children and young people with special educational needs in Worcestershire has been a priority for us for a number of years now. Over the last three years, Worcestershire has received a Special Provision Capital fund grant from the Department for Education to spend on SEND projects in good or outstanding special schools, and these completed renovations are one example how we’re committed to improving facilities and provision across the county. The renovations at Pitcheroak has allowed additional places and facilities for students to be created as well as developing the existing accommodation. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new facilities here at Pitcheroak help students to go on and achieve their full potential.”
