Councils in Worcestershire have been awarded just over a total of £2 million as part of the Government’s Green Homes Grant scheme.
The scheme, launched in October, is making £1.5 billion available through vouchers to fund up to two thirds of the cost of home improvements for over 600,000 homes across England – up to a maximum contribution of £5,000. Low income and vulnerable homeowners on certain benefits will be eligible for a grant covering up to 100% of the cost, up to £10,000.
The Green Homes Grant scheme also includes a local council delivery element to focus on owner occupiers and those in the private and social rented sector, with a household income of under £30,000.
The local council delivery scheme aims to raise the energy efficiency of low-income and low EPC-rated homes including those living in the worst quality off-gas grid homes. It will deliver progress towards reducing fuel poverty, phasing out high carbon fossil fuel heating and the UK’s commitment to net zero by 2050.
To drive these outcomes, funding will be allocated to councils, which will work through partners to deliver on eligible measures under the scheme, such as wall, loft and underfloor insulation, as well as low carbon technologies and solar panels.
The Business Secretary, Alok Sharma, has confirmed Worcestershire will receive a total of £2,086,550 – with £300,000 being awarded to Redditch Borough Council.
