I know the top priority for most of my constituents at the moment is the cost of living, with rising prices creating significant challenges for families up and down the UK.
As part of the £37 billion package of support, the Government has announced that it will be supporting households over the winter months with £400 off energy bills for six months from October 2022.
Households will see a discount of £66 applied to their energy bills in October and November, rising to £67 each month from December through to March 2023.
Today (July 29th), further details on how this scheme will work have been published:
- Direct debit customers will receive the discount automatically as a deduction from the monthly direct debit amount, or as a refund to the customer’s bank account
- Standard credit customers/payment card customers will see the discount applied as automatic credit
- Smart payment meter customers will see it directly credited to their smart prepayment meters
- Traditional payment meter customers will have a voucher that can be cashed in at the post office
