Rachel has welcomed Government funding to improve the safety of women and girls.

The funding boost comes from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund following a successful bid by the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia John Campion.

£400,000 will be invested in a West Mercia wide project to improve safety for women and girls.

The funding will be used to increase the number of StreetWatch schemes, provide a digital platform for volunteers to support victims, run an education programmes for partners working in the night time economy and schools and colleges focused on healthy relationships and raise awareness in communities.

Rachel said:

“From my time as a Minister in the Home Office, I know that improving the safety of women and girls is a top priority for the Government.

“The Government funding our Police and Crime Commissioner has secured is further evidence of our determination to ensure women and girls live in a society where they feel safe.

“It’s vitally important women and girls should feel free to live their lives in peace without being assaulted or harassed on the streets, going to work, to study or going out with their friends.

“I particularly welcome the funding for the education work; we all know that respect for others and healthy behaviours need to be instilled either at home by parents or at school.

“I’m looking forward to discussing this further with John Campion when he will be in Redditch very soon.”
