With 19 beds and a new ward now open at the Alexandra Hospital, Rachel has welcomed the improvement in capacity as a step in the right direction.

The new ward opened on Monday (February 5th) and will significantly help Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to improve patient flow and the quality of care patients receive.

It’s part of a number of improvements by the Trust to increase capacity at their hospitals as they continue to treat high numbers of patients.

Last month, Rachel joined her fellow Worcestershire MPs in opening the new link bridge and refurbished 28-bed Avon 5 ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Funding for these projects was secured from the £29.6million Acute Services Review pot of cash.

In welcoming the extra beds at the Alex, Rachel said: “These extra beds are very welcome and are a step in the right direction to improving patient flow and the care my constituents receive.

“I’ve long said the Alex has a bright future and is central to delivering healthcare in Worcestershire – the opening of this new ward is proof of that.

“Both the Worcestershire Royal and the Alex work closely together, are part of the same Trust, and both are used by people who live in Redditch. Investment is needed across both sites to ensure better care for all patients in our town.

“I also want to see investment into our town’s hospital continue, which is why I’m once again urging the Trust to get on and submit their full business case for the £8 million the Alex has been promised.”
