Following the Prime Minister’s statement on Monday (July 5th), Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch, said:
“We have to learn to live with this virus – and that’s the approach the Government is taking. It is the right approach.
“The Prime Minister will make a final decision on July 12th about whether or not we move to Step 4 on the Roadmap on July 19th. Rightly, this decision will be made in a balanced and careful way.
“It is thanks to our world-leading vaccination programme that we will be able to live as close to normal. The vaccines have done their job – and now we must capitalise on the advantage they’ve given us over this virus and begin to reopen our society.
“We simply cannot be locked up forever. The Government must weigh up the other impacts continued restrictions will have on people’s livelihoods, their mental health and of course other health conditions.
“I think we underestimate the fact that the vast majority of people in Redditch and across the country are full of common sense and can balance the risks in front of them. The time of Government dictating what we can and can’t do must come to an end.
“I’m certain residents will continue to look out for one another as we move to a new phase in learning to live with this virus.”
