“What is the art of the possible” will be the mission statement of the Alexandra Hospital Working Group which has been launched by the MP for Redditch Rachel Maclean.
Following discussions with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Rachel has set-up this new working group with the Chief Executive, Matthew Hopkins, and Chairman, David Nicholson.
This group will be used as a forum to discuss all matters relating to the Alexandra Hospital, and to intensify discussions over Rachel’s campaign to return services to the Alex.
The first of these working group meetings was held last Friday (5th September) where Rachel and Trust bosses agreed to work in a more positive and constructive way moving forward.
The working group will meet regularly and will also include other key local stakeholders at future meetings.
“I believe we have made a big step forward in fighting for what’s best for the Alex,” Rachel said.
“I’m pleased to say that I have set-up an Alex working group with local health bosses. This will be a forum to discuss everything to do with the Alex, a forum to raise issues, and yes, a forum to make the case to return services.
“If we’re to return services to the Alex, then I must engage with health bosses in a positive and constructive way – and this working group is a clear sign of this new approach, but this doesn’t mean I won’t continue to hold the Trust to account.
From securing the long-awaited Acute Services Review money, totalling £31 million, which will be used to fund improvements at the Alex, to launching this new working group – the Alex continues to be Rachel’s top priority.
“I was re-elected me in December to return hospital services to the Alex – and despite the challenges we’ve faced this year – this hasn’t stopped me in my efforts to return a maternity and children’s service to our town’s hospital,” Rachel added.
“Health bosses are in no doubt that my constituents want women to be able to give birth at the hospital again and that they want children to be able to be treated there too. Through this working group we will intensify our discussions on how we can make this a reality.
“With the Trust’s debt being written off, with new technology, with record numbers of staff working in our NHS, with this Government investing record amounts into the NHS – we will discuss what is the art of the possible.
“I’ve always said the Alex has a bright future ahead of it, and this new working group reaffirms the commitment I made to you that the Alex has been and always will be my top priority.”
