Rachel said: “For too long my constituents who use West Midlands Trains have been subjected to an unacceptable level of delays and cancellations. This situation cannot continue any longer.

“The Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, in his ultimatum to West Midlands Trains has said if a reliable service is not restored by midnight on January 31st then he will request the Department for Transport removes the franchise from West Midlands Trains. The Mayor has my full support in his approach.

“I’m aware that not every issue on the trains is the fault of the rail company, but the delays and cancellations are, which is why the Mayor is right to threaten the removal of West Midlands Trains’ franchise.

“Although new management might be taking over the rail company, these problems will still remain and Julian Edwards, their managing director, must get a grip on the situation on his first day in his new job. If not, as Mayor Street has said, the ultimatum still stands.”
