Following a visit to Redditch Central Masjid-e-Noor Mosque last Friday (August 30th), Rachel has written to the Foreign Secretary after concerns were raised about the situation in Kashmir.

Rachel visited the mosque once again and met with Rafaqut Hussain and Yasser Mahmood, as well as Councillor Salman Akbar, to discuss local concerns in Redditch’s Muslim community.

The top concern was the ongoing situation in Kashmir and the escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan as many residents have family living in Pakistani administered and India administered Kashmir.

Following her meeting at the mosque, Rachel has written to the Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, to raise these concerns and to find out the UK Government is doing to deescalate tensions and humanitarian efforts.

Rachel said: “It was great to be back at Masjid-e-Noor and to find out all the good they’ve been doing at the heart of our community.

“During our meeting, we discussed the concerns of those who have family members living in Kashmir. This is a very worrying time for them following the escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan.

“I have since written to the Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, to raise my constituents’ concerns directly with him. I also want to find out what the government is doing to support humanitarian aid efforts in Kashmir and the efforts of charities trying to get that aid to those who need it.”
