Following the election of Boris Johnson as the new Leader of the Conservative Party, Rachel said:

“I congratulate Boris Johnson on his victory in the leadership election. This contest has been a fantastic opportunity for our members to have their say on the most important decision facing the country at this time. I’m glad that the hardworking members, volunteers, serving Councillors and activists in the Redditch Conservative Association have taken part in hustings and debates. This is democracy at its best.

“Mr Johnson has my full support as Prime Minister to tackle the challenges ahead, including delivering Brexit, and dealing with issues that are important to us, including schools funding in Worcestershire, the Alex hospital, strengthening our police force, our town centre plans, and reforming and funding adult social care.

“I will be continuing to strongly fight for the issues that affect my constituents in Redditch and make sure that we are given the attention and support we rightly expect. I have personally worked with Boris Johnson in the past and I know he is committed to rising prosperity and opportunity in all areas of our great country including Redditch.

“The Conservative Party, both across the country and in Parliament, must now unite and rally round our new Leader, not only to get Brexit done, but to deliver a bold One Nation Conservative vision for the future of our country.

“Elections are only won from the centre ground and by reaching out to people right across the UK. I am certain this is the path Boris will follow when he becomes Prime Minister tomorrow.”
